Database Management Jobs

Database management jobs

Those working in database management are responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of an organization’s internal databases. The work is a balance of database development and maintenance. Much of the job involves designing databases to meet user needs while considering both the back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility for the users.

Once a database is built, it must be thoroughly tested and maintained. This includes monitoring database performance, efficiency, and speed – and troubleshooting issues as they arise. To maintain the integrity of the database, managers monitor use and control access permissions and privileges. They also develop, manage, and test back-up and recovery plans.

Job titles for those trained in database management include:

  • Database Manager
  • Database Administrator
  • Database Developer
  • Database Specialist
  • Database Coordinator
